First, the 16" model is available at Target for $479.99 (but we did have to pay a 5% sales tax)

The instructions are reasonably straight forward but should be read very carefully and:

(1) Make sure that you do not block any electrical outlets with the shelving by planning ahead and

(2) If you can find studs do so, plastic anchors they supply are OK, but the whole system is cantilevered (that is no support on the floor) so you have to be in solid to the wall, especially at the one bracket end.

(3) Finally when installing the tower brackets do make sure that they are the right distance apart AND in proper alignment to the top brackets that were the first step in installation, otherwise you might have the top shelf resting on only PART of the tower (it will work but not look "finished."

Also, you will need a 10 foot ceiling to hang two clothes racks in the same bay, on an eight foot ceiling you will be out of luck there is just not enough vertical space to do it.

8-Shelf Organizer and Two Drawers

I almost got the Honey-can-do hanging shelf and drawers separately, but as soon as I saw that I could get them together and save about 15 bucks I quickly deleted my other purchases and purchased this.
The product came packaged nicely in a box. The setup was nothing short of easy. The quality is absolutely fantastic. I'm positive it will last me the rest of my life. If I ever need another one of these, I will get the Honey-can-do brand.

Household Essentials Hanging Wardrobe Garment Storage Bag, Natural Canvas

I love these bags and the way they are constructed. The rod through the bag is so much better than the old rack assembly on some garment storage bags. It hangs well and the hooks are not going to bend on the rod--they are heavy duty ,not 'coat hanger' wire.There is a piece of stiff fiberboard in the top to keep the rectangular shape and to allow ample room to get your garments in and out of the bag; the rod hangs a few inches below the fiberboard. The canvas is a good weight and sturdy ,but not stiff and unwieldy.
I looked all over for a good wardrobe bag and this is the nicest one I could find and the price is excellent. I saw some not nearly as well made with prices up to $10 higher. Don't think you can go wrong with this one.

Rubbermaid Configurations 4-to-8-Foot Classic Custom Closet Kit

I bought the equivalent closetmaid up to 8 foot adjustable system a few weeks earlier and installed that in one room and just recently purchased this rubbermaid system (couldn't pass up the super low price) so can make a few honest comparisons:

- closetmaid comes with a lot more parts. There are several more linear feet of shelving included and a boatload more of brackets. I ended up having to go to the local store to buy a few extra feet of shelving and brackets to make the rubbermaid set as complete.

- closetmaid uses a plastic nonadjustable length hangar bar. This means you have to cut to length (easy, due to its plastic construction). But the plastic bar doesn't look as stylish or robust as the rubbermaid's metal bar ,which is adjustable so doesn't need cutting.

- closetmaid's "standards" -- the framing structure -- is longer by about a foot than than rubbermaid. This means you can have things hanging down lower or higher since there's more height available. I had to purchase extra standards to complete my closet for the rubbermaid while I had no issue with this factor with the closetmaid.

The shelving itself look about the same between the two systems. Rubbermaid claims you don't need to cut the shelves but you'll want to do this in many cases. They are easy to cut with a metal blade on a small jigsaw. The closetmaid includes endcaps for the bare metal which is a nice touch. No such luck with the rubbermaid. Overall installation with both systems is relatively easy. No rocket science knowledge involved. Just have a drill with the proper bits (drill bits and Phillips). The two systems, though different, appear compatible as I was able to fit in the brackets from the closetmaid to the rubbermaid system perfectly.

I wasn't too disappointed with the lack of parts for the rubbermaid since I bought it at amazon for $71 shipped, which was a great price. I paid about $50 more for the closetmaid at a non-sale price at a major home improvement chain store. Still, I ended up paying another $40 for the extra shelving and parts (bought at local home improvement store so it was expensive) to complete my closet for the Rubbermaid system so I eventually came out about even. Be warned if you're paying a higher price on the rubbermaid system as this set does not command a higher price.

it looks good.. but.... it only lasted 2 weeks before the thing bent and is absolutely no use anymore.. this item is a P.O.C. if you know what i mean.. i could have spent 50$ at Lowes and built one 100x better in less time than it took to ship and it would have lasted. I wish i would have never purchased this item. i had about 20-30 pounds(6 jeans, 12 shirts, 3 sweaters, an a snow coat)hanging on it. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY less than what it shows in the picture..its metal bars ( like a tent) with plastic connectors that dont last.. the whole thing leans to the side now and isn't sturdy at all. its currently leaning against the wall to stay up.

Whitmor 6026-220 Closet Shelves, Chromed Wire

The "idea" of this item was very attractive, but once I took it out of the box and started assembling it, I realized how cheap the materials were. THe chrome shelves do not line up to the grooves in the wood sides either, so by the time you are done manipulating them so the screws fit, the shelves end up with a little curvature. I am using this product in the back of my closet as additional storage, so I didn't care what it ended up looking like, however if you plan on putting this item in a more visible location in your house, I would suggest going with something else.

Whitney Design Khaki Wardrobe

It holds 12 pairs of shoes on each side, so 24 all together, with very deep pockets, it was able to hold some of my platform shoes, no boots though. The fabric could be a little more sturdy, it reminds me of the material that is used for raincoats. i was also able to put my boots boxes at the bottom and still put my entire summer wardrobe away, which is a lot! it took me about 15 minutes to put together.

I purchased this armoire in England in 2000. It has been moved three times, and with the exception of the movers breaking the handles, it still works well. I bought this extra rod to enable my daughter to hang up and access her own clothes, and I'm pleased with the quality, adjustability, and simplicity of design. The assembly was pretty easy, although one clarification for other buyers that's not mentioned in the instructions: The openings on both ends of the horizontal rod are slightly tapered. It will slide onto the vertical rods either way, but make sure to slide the horizontal rod on with the narrower end of the tapers up. That way, when you back the rod down over the black plastic stoppers, the wider tapered ends will cover the stoppers well. (This will make a lot more sense when you start putting the thing together).

Ameriwood Wardrobe Storage

This was absolutely the worst buy ever. It is scratched all over and when delivered I saw that the hanging rod was bent. When I called for a new one the rep didn't understand what I needed even when I gave the part number. I received a very small plastic part which I have no idea what it has to do with my product. My cousin drove a solid rod into the hanging rod so I could use it. The product needs a solid wood back to it as it is also very wobbley. I went to BIG LOTS and bought a 48" that is built much better and I paid a lot less. Horrible product.

I bought this, but it sat in a box for over 4 months because I was scared of the setup. A friend finally forced me into just doing it, and it took less than an hour for the whole deal. It was so quick that I can't believe I let it sit in a box.

A level (the tube with the bubble) proved very useful.

Anyway, it's sturdy, set up so easily, and I love the bars that let you slide hangers all the way across.

It's also nice looking. If you don't need a formal look, you could isntall this directly on an exposed wall for a sort-of utilitarian look. That's actually what I did, and as long as the clothing is neatly hung, it actually looks great.

No complaints whatsoever.
